Tunnel vision

I was asked to meet one of the houseparents at the Oban High School Hostel this morning - kids from the various islands stay there during the week as it's too far to go home every day. The lady concerned is keen to turn an empty site into a garden and was asking advice.

Unfortunately the main part of the site is a bog, due in part to run-off from the rugby pitches above, and the rest is hard-core, obviously the base of a no longer existing building. To say that the site is challenging is an understatement, but she wasn't put off and will investigate ways of dealing with both these problems. When this is done I will help with the design of a garden if required. Let's hope the hostel can raise the money needed.

The polytunnel has raised timber veggie beds inside, but has not been used for a long time. I thought it would be good to get that going again, offering local people beds if there was a demand - the hostel kids will be asked to design a flyer to post in local houses. Sounds like a good project!
