4th Cannula in Seven Days....

I have experienced a full Medical Emergency Team alert today, a woman in the next side ward had severe problems and the shift for today was very short staffed indeed and no normal senior nurse was on duty, but the ward was being ran by an Agency Nurse and two support nurses, any how one of the support nurses noticed a drop in this woman's OBS and they were dropping into the Amber/Red so as luck happened a Doctor was making some calls from the station and she was called to assess her. All hell broke out as the doctor called a MET Alert and folks came rushing from every corner of the hospital, I would say as many as eight turned up within 2 minutes, they quickly stabilised the patient as by 20 minutes it was over.
I got to see everything as my Isolation unit is right next to the Station.

The woman is now OK and fine, Dehydration had set off the problem.

The Agency nurse buggered off at 15:00, leaving no qualified nurse on our section for 12 patients, the support nurses are not allowed to give out medication or give drips, so the other sections had to cover leaving 2 qualified nurses for 36 folk. The reason, Section 2 was hit two weeks ago NORO Virus and had to be quarantined, all the patients are fine but now half the staff are off with it too.
BTW I haven't got it they checked.

My 4th Cannula was put in today by a Canadian Doctor who is over her to see the sights, WHAT!, Here in the Black Country?
