Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

Valkyries and Cherry Blossoms

We had a brief temptation to go to see the HD live Metropolitan Opera performance of Die Valkyrie but the thought of 5+ hours  (starting at 9:00 AM!) in the theater on such a lovely day didn’t appeal so instead we turned up the volume on our stereo and managed some other tasks  (exerise, made an appetizer to freeze, did some iPad drawing, lunch, coffee….etc.) while listening.  Sorry to not have the visuals (and the super titles) of this Robert Lepage production we’ve never seen..altho it’s from 2010.  A high tech mechanical challenge with huge planks turning into forests, and huts and horses and bridges… that’s been frought with technical problems.  But there are snippets on You Tube to look at.   We’ve seen this opera with Valkyries on live horses (well, 2 live horses) on stage, and also on flying (not live) horses, but never like this…I thought it looked like they were rowing. ( Here’s a 6 min You Tube with a previous cast but same scene…..if you love the ride of the valkyries bringing fallen heroes to Valhalla. )

THEN we needed to be outside so walked to the UW campus where the cherry trees are at their peak and it’s a weekend and a gorgeous day.,..we knew it’d be a mob but I wasn’t prepared for quite this big a mob…never have I seen this many people on this beautiful quad. Good people-watching…but oh my!  too many. (extras)...And everyone that wasn’t here was in their boat on the lake or in their car on the way to a park.  The walk was good.  The day was good!
