CANstruction!

Saturday
Beautiful Spring time temperatures today, under mixed skies. We drove down to Cincinnati this morning to see the Canstruction exhibits in a number of locations. Canstruction is an international charity competition where architects, engineers, contractors and students they mentor, compete to design and build large structures made entirely from food cans. A local panel of judges are chosen by the city chairperson and prizes are awarded for various categories, including Jurors' Favorite, Best Use of Labels, Best Meal, Structural Ingenuity and Honorable Mention/Peoples Choice. At the close of the competition all of the food is donated to local food banks in the cities where the competitions are held.
Starting from top left and going clockwise, the entries are entitled “Block out Hunger”, celebrating the 30th anniversary of Nintendo’s Gameboy, “Wish away Hunger”, based on the genie in the film Aladdin, the central two are front and back of “If you give a mouse a meal”, bottom right is “Hatching a plan to end Hunger, and bottom left is “Sniffing out Hunger”.
During our route, we made a detour down to the riverside park enjoying the warm temperatures and the Spring flowers. Having finished our tour, we then drove out to Ault Park, always so pretty in the Spring, with loads of Spring flowers and blossom. I’m including a riverside scene and a few from Ault Park in the extras
On our way home, we stopped at the “Y” for a swim, and then called in to buy some more bird seed, as the feeders were empty. When we got home, we had a cup of tea, which we enjoyed sitting outside - first time this year!
This evening we were out at a concert at Northminster Presbyterian Church, “Spring Ring and Sing”, featuring the Cincinnati Collaborative Ringing Project (handbell choir) and No Promises, a Cincinnati based professional a capella male ensemble. It was a really fun concert, featuring well known tunes from the last 80 years or so, such as selections by Cole Porter, Georgia on my mind, What a wonderful world, featuring the handbells, and Moon River, My favorite things, Nice work if you can get it, amongst many others by the a capella group. As a finale, they did an arrangement of Somewhere over the rainbow together. They are both extremely skilled groups, so it was a wonderful evening.
