Lenten Rose

I made two quick stops on my morning travels: one at the horse barns to say hi to the little ones, and one at the Arboretum to check out the latest spring blooms.

The photo above is lenten rose, or helleborus. There are several pretty stands of them, in different colors, near the Arboretum's pavilion and surrounding the Witness Tree.

The photo in the extras is of one of the little horses, who had apparently already had enough of everything, and was ready for its early morning nap. :-) Those longer legs behind the baby belong to mom, of course.

The song is for the flower above. I don't think this is the kind of rose she was referring to, but I'll take it anyway, as I like the song: Linda Ronstadt, with a live version of Love Is a Rose, from 1977. The sound isn't as clear as I'd like but isn't it worth it to see a young Linda belting it out?
