Wanderings & Witterings

Welcome

Earlier this week I saw an item on social media about an exhibition due to take place at the Helix Park in Falkirk from Thursday to Sunday.

The Travelling Gallery is a mobile art gallery, created from a converted bus, with the aim of taking contemporary art around Scotland. Their Spring 2019 exhibition, the one I read about, is called 'Displaced' and features various artists' responses to global migration and the worldwide refugee crisis. It was at the same time entertaining and thought-provoking, with different artists providing a wide variety of perspectives on the theme.

My Blip today is one of two paintings by Alberta Whittle, described as a Barbadian / Scottish artist, researcher and educator. These works form a piece called Lessons in Welcome, the aim being to encourage the viewer to reflect on the nature of the welcome offered to incomers, whether that's at a local or national level.
