The old Pareora Dam

Doug & I went for a walk along the Pareora River to the old dam this morning.  
Because of the drastic lack of rain since Christmas there is only a trickle of water coming over the concrete.....
......take a look at My other options to show how serious the lack of water is and how derelict the dam is.  When there is a good flow the water can cover the whole structure and makes a great sight.

The nearly 140-year-old structure has been unused since the then borough council water supply was upgraded in 1939, and now the Timaru District Council has budgeted $75,000 to find out whether it is worth saving the historic structure.

It turned rather cold, but added to the landscape drama as we walked back to the car.
