Twisted and Torn

On a gray overcast day such as this, I usually stick to the woods where I can exclude the sky and use the diffuse light. All the snow has gone for now.

I became interested in the shapes of this old tree stump where one or more of the original tree stems fell some time ago and new shoots have grown from the stump. The remaining twisted stem developed along the ground before searching skywards for light.

I couldn't quite isolate all the new growth shoots from the background as I would have liked and they don't stand out quite enough. Unfortunately I can't do a "depth mask" with my images - maybe one day.
