Tufted-sedge

The tufted-sedge growing on the edge of our large pond looks particularly smart at this time of year, and was one of the few things I photographed today. It was Pete's birthday and, after a morning trip out to fetch supplies, much of the afternoon was spent preparing an invertebrate based birthday dinner - particularly suitable for an entomologist.

We had an oriental themed starter of salt and pepper squid and prawn gyoza, followed by langoustines flamed with whisky served over dill and lemon potato cakes, accompanied by a citrus-dressed salad and steamed samphire. I'm afraid I cheated with the dessert and bought a reduced apricot frangipane tart from Waitrose!
