FRELIMO

I believe this is the headquarters of FRELIMO, Mozambique’s dominant political party. It was founded in 1962 to fight against Portuguese rule and its name will be familiar because of whatever press coverage existed between then and the early 1990s, after which a more peaceful period began for Mozambique. Realising my knowledge of Portuguese history isn’t up to scratch, I ordered some books to be collected by a friend in the UK, and spirited to me next week. After reading them I may be able to make some more insightful comments about FRELIMO and the history of this country in general.

I see this view as I emerge from the office space I’m using. It always reminds me of Mozambique’s turbulent recent history.
