The Awakened Madonna performance

OMG!!! This afternoon we went to a performance at the Honolulu Biennale of our friend Cheryl's dance company, IONA 360°. One woman, Malia, danced this piece, which comes from a larger work by Cheryl, called The Awakened Madonna. It was utterly beautiful, moving and intense. The dancer began, caged inside the labels, roles, limits and constraints imposed on her. She gradually removes the layers of her conditioning and vents her anger at those chains that bound her. The dancer was so intense. Maybe it was her nerves or maybe it was the intensity of her movements, but her whole body trembled, from her fingers rignt down her legs. Still, she never for a moment lost her keen sense of control. Her gaze was fixed and her whole face and body were extraordinarily expressive in the most subtle of ways. I was in tears.

We also went over to Diana and Bob's to say goodbye to them as they are leaving to go back to their other lives in Massachusetts tomorrow. Hopefully we'll catch up with them there in early July.

And quite a bit of work.
