Advent Calendar - Blessed (as holy, divine...)

Day 19 of anuk's Advent Calendar - Blessed (as holy, divine or untouchable)

A backblip due to lack of internet while I was in Snowdonia. I did, however, manage to grab a quick connection on my mobile phone while out to get the theme for the challenge.

Day 18 - Acting Like an Elf.

A quick lesson in the Welsh language for you. I was told when I lived there and earned my living from Welsh language broadcasting that the word "Llan" which is frequently translated as meaning "Church", actually referred to the piece of land set apart (or made holy) for a church, whether the church actually got built or not. Of course, in almost every instance the church was built, so it came to mean the church.

So with a theme of Blessed (as holy, divine or untouchable) it was off to find a church. Having spent much of the day around Llyn Efyrnwy (Lake Vyrnwy) I went to St Wyddn's church, not the original church for that is under the "lake", but the replacement that was built when the valley was flooded to make the reservoir for the people of Liverpool to have a reliable supply of fresh water.

This stained glass window doesn't depict Mary with Jesus (fooled you :) ) but rather the story of Moses. It commemorates the daughter of the vicar at the church who appears to have died at a young age.

Just for information, even the present parishioners of the church aren't too sure who St Wyddn was!

You should also know that w and y are vowels in Welsh.
