I WONDERED LONELY AS A CLOUD.................

Well several clouds actually.

G's last day for this trip, although he will be back again in about 2 months time.

I was going to take him to Malham, but as the weather was cloudy we had a change of plan and decided to go to Cockermouth and to Williams Wordsworth's House, the house he was born in I mean.

We stopped off at The Lakes Distillery for Coffee and a gorgeous little homemade cake.  Then onto Cockermouth.

We arrived just in time to go on the guided tour and then wandered around on our own.  I always thought the house was Georgian but apparently not, it was transformed to look Georgian by one if its previous owners.  I can't remember when the guide said it was built but it was pre Georgian.

It was a very interesting tour and we enjoyed exploring the house, even though the only original piece of furniture was a bureau used by John Wordsworth (William's father).

We then walked around the lovely gardens. There was a lovely lady there working away but she was very happy to chat and let us know about the gardens.  We then went for a walk along the terrace.  I hadn't realised that the bridge I walk across when going to Cockermouth (I always park in the Memorial Gardens car park) was so close to Wordsworth's birthplace.  Found another little garden with chickens with brilliant names.

We then thought we would go to Armathwaite Hall Hotel for lunch but I couldn't remember the way and as it was already two o'clock we stopped off at Lingholm on the way back and had a lovely lunch followed by a short walk down to their own little jetty and got this wonderful view of Derwentwater.

Lingholm also has literary connections to Beatrix Potter, so a very literary day.

All in all in lovely day.
