Zaanse Schans

Thursday 9th May 2019

The forecast has changed every day. Thankfully it changed again over night and we had the best day weather wise today. It was sunny and the temperature reached 20 degrees, just perfect for our trip out to this most wonderful place. Eight windmills, traditional houses, artisan workshops, vintage museums, it has the lot. It was also the cheapest day as we only had to pay for parking and a couple of euros for one of the museums. We declined to go in the others. We were going to climb one of the windmills until we discovered it was a traditional steep ladder!

We walked to the furthest windmill, had a great time in the clog workshop and the cooperage, sampled all the cheeses in the cheese factory (we didn't buy as they were astronomically expensive!) and had a nice fresh waffle lunch in the bakery.

A wonderful day and so many photos to choose from. Lots of people around willing to take photos for others, as I did for some of them. We love the one in the extras, which is mum's main blip as well.

By mid afternoon we had done enough walking so returned home to relax and continue sorting photos and producing our books, well mum's actually, mine is lagging behind!
