MV Loch Seaforth - Stornaway.

We are on Harris in the Outer Hebrides and this morning took the Loch Seaforth ferry to Stornaway on the Isle of Lewis.
It was a good crossing with views back to the Coigach mountains and the Summer Isles.
We had plenty of time so we took a look around the town and harbour, though we have stayed here a couple of times.
This installation in the foreground is in commemoration of the Iolaire disaster 100 years ago last January. Young men returning from the First World War were within sight of home when their ship foundered. Tragically 280 men were lost. All the more terrible as they had survived the war and were returning to loved ones, many of whom watched from the shore. It had a dreadful and lasting effect on the small community.
Each posts represents a man on board, the lighter coloured ones survivors.
It apparently lights up at night so will look more significant then. There is a memorial near the place where it happened which we have visited before.

We are now further south in South Harris. En route in North Harris we passed the real Loch Seaforth.

Enjoyed a lovely seafood meal of Scallops last night and more seafood tonight in Tarbert. Sunday on Harris tomorrow will be quiet as most things will be closed. Less temptation to spend though we did make it into a Harris Tweed shop this afternoon in Tarbert.
A complimentary single malt ( Singleton) for us in our bedroom tonight. Don’t normally drink whisky but .....
