Bluebells, Newbridge

Bluebells now carpet the site of an ancient blast furnace, constructed more than 500 years ago at Newbridge on Ashdown Forest.

An information board nearby (see the second of today's 'Extras') records that the furnace was established on 13th December 1496 at the behest of the English King, Henry VII, to provide armaments for his war against the Scots.
