As I live in a big apartment building I don't really have a doorstep; however, this fire exit is happily almost on my doorstep and I use these steps instead of the elevator every day.  And I have had to use these steps in several evacuations, the very first time shortly after we'd moved into the building and I had to leg it out of the building carrying two unhappy cats with the fire alarms blaring.  Yeesh.

As a follow up to yesterday's blip, the Lathrop House landed safely at its new spot.  I think it looks good right behind the museum, it's a far more visible location and I think there'll be lots of folks heading up those porch steps (when they're rebuilt) to tour the house just as soon as it reopens.  A couple extras.
