Goin' Out To Check the Pots

Crab Pots, that is! We visited Smith Island, Maryland today, took a short walking tour around the town of Ewell and ate a lunch of amazing crabcake sandwiches, delicious fries, tasty homemade coleslaw and a mouth-watering slice of of the 'Famous' Smith Island Cake, which is an incredible ten very thin layered confection. Ewell is the largest of three small towns situated on the Maryland portion of the island. Virginia shares the island with Maryland but there are no towns in it's portion.
Smith Island is located in Chesapeake Bay, 10 miles west of Crisfield, MD.
Fishing for oysters in the Fall and Winter and Blue Crabs in the Spring and Summer is what these descendants of British settlers who arrived on the island in the 17th century do for their livelihood.
