A time for everything

Chicago!

We have to pay a fleeting visit to Chicago for an appointment tomorrow morning. So we went to church this morning as usual, then came home, changed, put a few things in an overnight case, made a few sandwiches to eat on the way, and off we went. It’s a little under a five hour drive, but with the time change, we gained an hour, so we got there about 4.30. We have visited Chicago before, but not for quite a number of years now. It was a bit of a dismal drive, with low cloud and rain much of the way. Our hotel was north of the downtown, but fairly close to the lake. We were just about to head out for a walk, and then out for dinner, when Jen called to wish me a Happy Mother’s Day. She had sent me a card, which she expected to reach me yesterday, but unfortunately the post office let her down! We chatted for a while, then headed out. It was almost like going back to winter - cold and wet. I reckon they are about three weeks behind us as far as Spring goes. Whilst most of the trees are in leaf, down by the lake especially there are trees still to come into leaf. Tulips are in full bloom, whereas ours finished several weeks ago, and flowering trees are in much earlier stages of blossom. We got our 10,000 steps in, but then were glad to get to the restaurant, an Italian one we had picked out on Yelp, to dry out and warm up! It turned out to be a great choice, excellent home-style Italian food.
