A Bird in the Hand...etc.

Which actually refers to the photo in extras but I just couldn't resist making this mallard duckling the main blip simply on the grounds of cuteness.

The bird in the extra is a sedge warbler...I'll explain, B and I went to the Bird Fair at Pensthorpe Natural Park today.  This is the first time that Pensthorpe has hosted this event, and it seems to have been a great success.  We visited the tents first where I strongly resisted the urge to buy some of the beautiful art work on display.  Then we went on a habitat walk with the excellent Nick Acheson, the well known Norfolk naturalist, who as well as being a passionate advocate of conservation, was most entertaining, and extremely knowledgeable.
The Sedge Warbler in the extra was caught in mist nets by members of the British Trust for Ornithology for ringing, however he had already been ringed so was measured, weighed and then released.  It's amazing to think that this little bird that weighed less than 12 grams had just flown all the way from Sub-Saharan Africa.
A most enjoyable day indeed.
