Hadrian's Wall

Rain forecast for later today, so we travelled along the military road to Housteads Fort, and up onto Hadrian's Wall for a walk alongside it. This is the 5* section sitting atop the Great Whin Sill.

This is our second day of following the Romans. The museum artefacts at Housesteads are fascinating. Although the explanation of the Wall for youngsters, which connects it to Game of Thrones (the author of the books took his inspiration from the Wall apparently), passed me by as I have never watched it.

Late lunch at the excellent Sill visitor centre, and then to our second national trust site of the day. Thomas Bewick's birthplace at Cherryburn. We were the only visitors after 4pm, it's a small house, but fascinating.
