What On Earth??

Truth be told this isn't really a macro shot. But let's just pretend it is, because when I saw it today at lunch time I thought "Ooh! Perfect for Abstract Thursday - but I wonder what the theme is...?"

I'll put the uncropped version in as an extra but probably that won't help much in terms of figuring out what it actually is. To be fair, "What on earth?" was my reaction when I saw it. Or more to the point "Did someone official do that on purpose, or was it a prank?" And "How did those oblong things form?" So many questions!
