Silly Saturday

started at silly 'o' clock in Marmaris, as we were picked up at  at 01.50hrs from our hotel to  transfer to Dalaman airport for our 4am check in ............. A very comfortable journey, which we did in a remakably short time considering we were going at a safe speed in a minibus compared to our white knuckle taxi transfer a fortnight earlier which took 20 minutes longer. I did nod off apparently, as pointed out by my "better" half. A queue was already forming for our check in but as hubby had requested customer assistance, we jumped the queue so first to check in. The staff took up position, checked our 1 suitcase in, label attached to handle and waved goodbye as it trundled off along the conveyor belt.  Now there's a problem, not sure what exactly for 5 minutes or so then a senior member of Freebird check in staff arrived & announced that the system had gone down and that they were unable to print off boarding passes. We waited, & waited, standing patiently in an orderly line, well not quite an orderly line, some of the travellers were obviously a bit twitchy about their weight allowance, one woman came up to a vacant check in desk, put her case on the scale, then obviously overweight, was frantically re packing, & transferring clothing etc. Her action started the ball rolling then it felt like everyone was weighing cases. After about an hour of fraught conversations between members of staff, phone calls in  both Turkish & English we had action. Boarding passes printed we headed  straight through to departures. Boarded the plane, sat in  row 3, a family of two young boys and 2 adults sat in row 2. Well the eldest boy, about 11 years of age suffered with some behavioral problem, started screaming & lashing out as the mother who was trying to calm him down. He wanted to sit in the front row. Fortunately those seats had'nt been allocated and they were able to move forward. Occasional loud screams throughout the flight, which were a little unsettling for some. The couple sat behind us were moaning virtually all the way across. It must be very difficult travelling in these circumstances, perhaps we need to be a little more understanding in these situations. Everyone needs a holiday, the parents and younger brother of this lad for sure. After crossing the English Channel we reached land & sunshine, but the closer we got to our destination so the sunshine was replaced by heavy cloud, the land only becoming visible just before we set down in Bristol.

Driving down from Bristol was a lot easier, not so much congestion ,still far too many idiots driving without any consideration for other road users though. Why do so many drivers hug the middle lane on the motorway, it's no wonder there are so many accidents, I saw numerous drivers overtake on the inside lane .. a recipe for disaster sooner or later.

The sun broke through and by the time we reached Taunton it was glorious sunshine. Quick pit stop for milk & bread then home, unpack the case. 2 loads of washing out on the line, a egg & bacon toastie enjoyed on the patio, time to get weeding. The garden has definitely flourished from the rainfall while we were away. Excellent timing as it meant a friend only needed to keep an eye on the greenhouse bits n bobs. Everything looking pretty happy, Third batch of broad bean plants have gone a bit leggy so might not perform but will plant them anyway.

Laundry dried super in the afternoon sunshine. An easy dinner, followed by an early night. We'd been up for 48 hours so feeling slightly jaded. Itching to get up the allotment to check out how it's all doing. :)

Thanks to admirer for hosting.

p.s As you can see from the blip of Dalaman airport departures terminal  not too many people flying at silly 'o' clock
