Butt of Lewis

Hebridean weather, eh? Sitting by the lighthouse at the Butt of Lewis and the van is being pelted by rain yet we have had some wonderful beach walks today in bright sunshine. Summer officially begins tomorrow so who knows what the conditions will be like for my solstice bivvy??

We parked at Tolsta beach last night and spent most of the day exploring the beaches and visiting the Bridge To Nowhere, which was part of an attempt by Lord Leverhulme to create a road up to Ness. The road was never built. You can see the bridge in my 1st extra.

Leaving Tolsta, we drove up over the moors and along the west coast of Lewis. We walked on Eoropie beach - real Atlantic waves here (2nd extra) and then on up to the very northern tip of Lewis.

This will be our 12th night in the van.

Sunset is at 22.38
