Iris pseudacorus

A bit of a record shot.  This is the first flower on the Yellow Flag Iris clump in the "bog garden".   Soon after we moved in years ago it became clear a part of the garden on the north side would always be damp.  So rather than fight it we decided to make it wetter, we dug out a hole almost big enough to be a pond, lined it and then filled it in.  This keeps the ground nicely damp.  Being on the north side the area is shady.

These native Flag Iris scrounged from a wet and wild part of a friends garden do extremely well under the conditions.  as a species it is widespread throughout the British Isles and features a lot in our memories of last years holiday in the western isles of Scotland.
