St Conan's Kirk

"Religion is not a department of life; it is something that enters into the whole of it." Alan Watts

Unexpectedly we came across St Conan's Kirk, on the road to Oban and overlooking Loch Awe in Argyll and Bute. So striking in appearance as it suddenly appeared at the roadside, it demanded a visit.  Fancy a Norman arched doorway, it's got one. How about a few Gothic flying buttresses, got them too. Basically a pick and mix of architectural styles, it was designed and built late 19th/early 20th C by Walter Douglas-Campbell, to save his elderly mother the inconvenience of the long journey to church at Dalmally. Oh, and the scones and cream from the tea-room are exceptionally good too.
