Pointe de Pen Hir

We've had a bit of a historical day unintentionally. It was quite wet this morning and it looked a bit as though it was set for the day. We decided to go to Brest but didn't realise what a big city it was. We didn't stop but carried on to the Crozon Peninsula and to the Pointe de Penhir which sticks out into the Atlantic. There's a huge monument to the Breton Free French shaped as the Cross Lorraine and also the Memorial Museum to the Battle of the Atlantic which is set in a WW2 blockhouse which was built by the Germans using conscripted French labour. There are other buildings and gun emplacements on this highly fortified site and buildings used in the first world war which were also 'enhanced' by the Germans. I'm guessing that the building in my blip was one of those. Very interesting to visit especially for Marian, whose father was on mine sweepers guarding the Atlantic convoys. As you can see the the weather brightened up considerably and its been very hot this afternoon!

You can see many more pics in my album here if you'd like to see them.
