Nicky and her Nikon

Cambridge

Gavin went to to work for a couple of hours this morning (taking my camera to Fixation on the way) and I managed to do some laundry and get all the ironing done - and then we set off for Cambridge. The traffic was the worst we have ever experienced on this journey, instead of our usual 1hr 45 min trip it was 3 hours.

We spent some time with Adam and then he rushed off to the gym and then on to his graduation dinner. Gavin and I checked into the hotel which was so busy, full of parents and families here for graduation. We wandered around the city for a while, when I took some photos. As it is graduation time there were many students walking around in their graduation gowns with the fur lined hoods, so I thought this image taken on King's Parade summed up the scene. Graduation is done by college, and the tradition is that the students process from their college to Senate House, which is where all the graduation ceremonies take place. Adam's college is a fair way from Senate House so we have about a 25 minute procession, but I added the first extra photo to show how lucky the students from Gonville and Caius college are - the college is the building with the Disney palace like turrets on the left, and their students only have to walk across the narrow allow way to step into Senate House, which is the while building on the right! The second extra is tourists punting on the Cam in the sunshine.

Luke and Meriel arrived in Cambridge later, in time to join us for supper. They have a 21st party in Cambridge after the graduation tomorrow so are staying with Adam. Thomas had his head of house music BBQ tonight with their music director and did not want to miss that, so he is driving to Cambridge much later tonight after the BBQ is finished.

Tomorrow morning it is an early start. Adam has to be at a graduation rehearsal at 8am and we are joining him at his college for photos at 9.15am before processing to Senate House. It will be a very significant day for him, and for us, and it should be a glorious day - temperature is forecast to be 31C!

Apologies I don't have much time for journals over this busy time.
