Gingerbreads

With various visitors scheduled for the next few days, I was up at the crack of dawn and had these gingerbreads out of the oven at 8:15 which was perfect timing to have breakfast just as daughter#1 arrived on a lightening visit before her duty at the art gallery began. It was lovely to sit outside in the warmth and early morning stillness and watch the new graduates arriving in their finery for a graduation ceremony at the McEwan Hall later.

The day was still behaving when friends from Felixstowe arrived in the afternoon to sit on the patio and quaff wine , but went downhill when we decided that pizzas were the answer to stomach rumblings and we needed to brave threatening skies to get them. Still, with these consumed and the strawberries and ice cream as well, the proper rain held off until my friends decided it was time to get back to their camper van at Mortonhall , when it was unleashed with a certain vindictiveness. Nothing daunted , because they are very hardy people, they left as the skies got ever darker and the rain stotted off the paths. I hope they don’t get too wet on their journey back because we had such an enjoyable afternoon.
