Coming Home - Grampian Frontier

Today we went for a quick visit to Stonehaven which has suffered quite a bit of flooding during the recent storms. People around the harbour area were busy chucking stuff out into skips which had been provided for the purpose. Even though it is quite a few days since the worst of the flooding many shops and houses still have sand bags in front of their doors. We were surprised at how far back from the harbour the damage continued.

After a walk around the town we retired to the warmth of the car. The sea is still quite rough. Going into Aberdeen we were very surprised by the height of the Dee which is even higher than when I last saw it a few days ago. We visited the village of Fittie at the entrance to the harbour just as the Grampian Frontier was returning to port. Some of the crew seemed to be happy to be coming home as they gave us a wave as they passed. Again it was quite cold so we retired for a coffee at a nearby cafe.

Tonight it is very windy, definitely a night to be home and snug ashore rather than afloat on the ocean waves.
