Under the archway

I missed an opportunity to visit Passau a few years ago, when it was the venue for one of the conferences I regularly attend. I recall I put in a paper proposal, but withdrew because I didn't have the time to travel here. It's hard to imagine how the conference fitted in to this very cute place, and also what the pressure on hotels must have been. It's obviously very touristy, but pleasant and olde worldy in a rather funky way.

Our experiences so far are somewhat affected by the heat - it was a good 35 degrees yesterday, possibly more. We're not particularly well adjusted for this. We managed a short wander on arrival to find a place for late lunch, and then another wander between 6pm and 8pm to look at the promontory sticking out into the confluence of the Rivers Danube and Inn, seeing notices everywhere we looked for the historic highwater marks of June 2013. In our hotel, in our rooms on the first floor, we would have been inundated up to the level of our beds....  (Some great pictures, including Passau, on this page).
