From Beneath

Sticking to the shade of the trees on another hot evening stroll that took me below the level of the garden and allowed me to look up at the garden plants from below gave an unusual perspective.

From this angle the sun shone through the leaves making them glow and highlighted details of the vein structure giving them texture. I became interested in the arrangement of positive and negative shapes, the pattern of light and shade and the cast shadows. Not being able to tell which way up the leaves are creates an optical illusion which I found intriguing.
