Old with the new

The title's about the buildings before you say anything about Fred and his dad.

As it was my birthday, I had a hefty say in the planning of the day. Heath was booked on the sleeper back to Inverness in the evening so we decided to drop off his bag at Euston first. We then headed by tube to Liverpool Street and walked through Spitalfields (terraced buildings from the 17th century standing beside modern skyscrapers) and Brick Lane to Whitechapel Art Gallery. Heath had explored the British Museum yesterday, but it was so crowded that he didn't enjoy it much. The East End wasn't so crowded and the tourists hadn't thought of Whitechapel Art Gallery so there was plenty of room for us. I really enjoyed the Mel Bochner exhibition - very colourful with clever word play. We'd played some great games of Scrabble the evening before so these paintings flowed nicely from our previous day's brain exercises.

Heath got to his train in good time and I suggested to Fred that we check out the Nepalese restaurant that we pass every time we race to the station to catch the sleeper. It's always intrigued me. We had a lovely dinner of Nepalese dumplings and paneer cheese and lentil curry - very tasty indeed. The place is small and the waiters are welcoming and smiley. I highly recommend it.

Lastly, thank you to Fred for making me blueberry pancakes this morning. It was a perfect birthday breakfast surprise.
