Dawn O'Clock

I forced myself out to get the sunrise. I was too late but it was still breathtaking.

Later, a wine stocking up expedition to a vineyard. A random rustic recommendation. Great wine but so badly missing a marketing trick. Served by four young teenagers, only one speaking any English. The parents were working in the office and kept their heads down while the kids did the serving.

We had to ask them if they sell olive oil – none on display – whereupon the lad ran over to a barn and came back with an armful of beautifully packaged bottles of the golden oil. They were happy for us to taste the wines but only had one bottle of white in the huge fridge so were opening others at room temperature. No evidence of laws preventing minors from serving alcohol. Meanwhile we managed to get a couple of bongiorno’s out of the adult staff.

No meats, no cheeses. Not like the fattoria from over in Chianti that offers a range of everything for the Tuscan kitchen. A fun experience nevertheless. And dinner by the city wall with another spectacular sunset view over the valley. I tried the roast wild boar (I bet it was really wild when it was shot – geddit. Ha Ha) That was a rubbish joke – Ed.
