Tràigh Ear

It was mixed again so we decided to go to the Balranald nature reserve looked after by the RSPB and go on the guided walk. It was very good with the warden being really well informed. We heard Corncrakes, saw lots of birds and had a good explanation of how the machair works and what flowers when. After we had lunch at the community café at Cladach, good food but terrible service. We then decided to walk the Udal peninsula as the weather was mixed. This is an area of machair between two beaches, Tràigh Ear and Tràigh Iar (east and west beaches). There is a huge area of sand at low tide and no beach at high tide. The blip is Tràigh Ear as we walked to the end of the peninsula looking towards Berneray and South Harris. The collage is Beinn Mhòr and Crògearraidh Mor looking over Tràigh Ear, seaweed on the beach and a couple of pictures of the machair (mainly buttercups and pansies looking towards Harris and then Crògearraidh Mor as a shower passed through.

Yesterday’s blip.
