Alstroemeria

Last week I bought a bunch of flowers to use with a course student, it had a couple of alstroemerias in it. I'm always amazed at how long these picked flowers last.

This afternoon our garden centre visit was to somewhere completely new to us. We hadn't even travelled the road before! I met Lynn Wilson from Pine Tree Nurseries (from Glassonby) last weekend, selling plants at our village event. We got talking about conifers and she said she had some new stock just in.

I chose a dozen from her and then couldn't resist an alstroemeria. It's only recently that I've realised they grow well outdoors in this country. The conifers will get planted at the lodge as I've given up my fight with the rabbits over growing bulbs. I'm betting on thujas, yews, junipers and chamaecyparis being too tough for lagomorphs!

The bouquet alstroemeria flower was at a better stage than the very similar bought plant so it got blipped today.
