Wound up in Wexford

Darter

I think this is a common darter, but I didn't get a good enough view to be certain.  He didn't sit still for long, and when he did, it was on the opposite side of the pond.  But I did rather like this pose, with his tail up in the air.  It's apparently called the obelisk position, and may be a way of reducing exposure to the sun in high temperatures - and we certainly had high temperatures here today.

Apart from a few wanders outside for photographic purposes, we've largely been confined inside - it was just too hot and we were just too lethargic.  Tomorrow promises to be equally hot - we're thinking of a trip to the coast, to try for a cooling sea breeze.
