Iolaire harbour sculpture

The ferry left for Ullapool after lunch, so we had another quick look round in Stornoway beforehand. The outline of the Iolaire, (a ship that sank near the entrance to Stornoway Harbour on 1 January 1919 whilst transporting WW1 survivors back home) has been made with 280 posts representing the people on board, near the harbour wall. 79 posts are white and they symbolise the survivors. Despite the installation being there for about 7 months the build-up of sea weed has been rapid, so today the posts were being given a powerwash and I thought a collage made a good blip. The ferry journey was relaxing, we saw Dolphins and had fine views of the Assynt hills that made up the extra with another clearances memorial.

Yesterday’s blip.
