Midhowe

Whoopeeee, we're on holiday! Having a long weekend on Rousay, Lottie's first trip away in the camper van.

An exploration of Midhowe broch and chambered cairn this afternoon. It's a long steep walk back up to the road, but well worth it. Fascinating to think that the cairn was built 3000 years BC. The skill of the builders is amazing. 

This photo is of the broch, which was occupied from the second century BC to the second century AD.  So much of it is still standing that you really can imagine what it was like at the time. 

We are parked up at a beach, watching seals in the evening sunshine, glass of wine to hand, with Lottie dozing next to us! Perfect!
