Hovering on the phlox

Quick trip into Glasgow this morning but back before lunchtime. The garden is buzzing and humming with winged creatures of all sorts. I was stalking the hoverflies but they're so quick and, well, hovery. This one stayed still long enough on the pink phlox for me to take a blip. I love its iridescent wings.

I've also included an extra of another painted lady. They're still here in large numbers. I did a bit of reading yesterday about the recent influx and it seems that there have been thousands seen along the east coast from Shetland southwards. So glad that some of them made it inland to Stirling. They're absolutely lovely.
