York Minster

Sunday
Since we were in the area, we had planned to spend the day in York - the last time we had been was when Jen was a child! The day had started with a delicious breakfast at our B&B, followed by heading back to the hotel to say goodbye to family we wouldn’t be seeing again this trip. After a futile attempt to find somewhere to park in York, we ended up going out to one of the Park and Rides, which we should have tried first! Being a summer Sunday afternoon, York was not surprisingly heaving with people. First we visited the magnificent Minster, then walked most of the walls, and had a cream tea near the Shambles, before going down to the river, where there was some sort of rowing event going on, which we stood and watched for a while. Roger had done some rowing back in his youth, at university, and when he was doing industrial training in Gloucester one summer. Jen also started doing rowing at university, but because of her light frame they wanted her to be a cox, which she wasn’t interested in, so she didn’t pursue it. By this time, it was late afternoon, so time to get back to the car and head back to the Warrington area.
