Manarola

The coastal path between Corniglia and Manarola is closed due to landslides - has been since 2011! I read that they were getting close to opening it in 2015, when there were more landslides. There is another trail that goes more inland, but that also means it’s longer and higher up in the mountains, hence more climbing. From her searching online, Jen came up with a good compromise, given the heat. We took the train to Manarola, then walked up through the village, and took a (mini)bus up in the mountains to Volastra, then hiked back to Corniglia, which was slightly undulating to begin with, and then mainly downhill. It was a spectacular hike, stunning scenery, initially through terraced vineyards, then through wooded areas. Once back at Corniglia, we took the train back to Manarola to explore the village more - we wanted to do our hiking in the morning when it was somewhat cooler. I think Manarola was my favourite village so far. We found somewhere to have some lunch, then went for a cooling swim. Another fabulous day in the Cinque Terre!
