Denver’s Union Station

I flew back to Denver from Boise early this morning. I got ‘home’ early enough to have a very restful afternoon, which I needed after the busy weekend. This evening I went out for dinner and then wandered around LoDo (lower downtown). There are lots of beautiful buildings there, some old, some new, and several lit up.

This is Denver’s historic Union Station. A train station was built on this site in 1881 and burned down in 1894. The main part of this Beaux-Art building was completed on 1914. It’s on the US National Register of Historic Places. At one time in danger of being torn down, Union Station was saved and underwent a huge renovation, completed in 2014. It now includes the Crawford hotel, several restaurants and stores and a central lounge with comfortable seating and ambience, colloquially known as ‘Denver’s Living room’.
