Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

By NannaK

Happy in the sun

All 10 of us in the book club showed up (!) at Diane’s to catch up on events in our lives and discuss the book “Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens.  It wasn’t til after I had read this  novel that I found out this is the person who with her husband Mark wrote “The Cry of the Kalahari” and other non fiction books about their African research and experience with lions and other wildlife… in the 70s. ( that was an amazing story I can remember from long ago)     The Crawdads is her first fiction  (and a murder mystery) about a girl who grows up in isolation in the outer  banks, marshland,  in North Carolina…in the 50s-60s.      Lots of questions and a very satisfying read, I thought.     I was happy to see everyone.  The sunflower is flourishing on Diane’s balcony.    She’s just bought a small house in Port Townsend near her daughter so we won’t be here again.   Do not envy her the move…but most everyone else is moving to retirement homes…But it’s not far to come for book club.

Extra: lunch…grits, shrimp, and collard greens to complement the book…the hostess bar keeps getting higher, especially for me.
