Hospital Huts

Another day - another hospital - two in fact.

The day didn't start well with John waking up with one of his atrial fibrillations - the events that Tuesday's operation was intended to cure.  He had an appointment at the warfarin clinic at Stoke Mandeville hospital so I took him for that and then home, after collecting a few bits for dinner and filling the car up with fuel.  The afib was also accompanied by a couple of migraine heads so, all in all he was feeling pretty grotty.  Fortunately he was able to phone Hammersmith hospital and the doctor there arranged for him to be checked over at Wycombe hospital - so off we went.

We were at Wycombe for quite a while - they were very thorough and also busy with other patients  When John went in he was looking very rough but, over the few hours we were there, he gradually improved to more like his normal self.  There is one more check Wycombe wants to do - an MRI scan - but that couldn't be done today and so will be tomorrow.  This evening he is noticeably brighter than yesterday so we hope the upward trend will continue.

John does find being idle very hard and is used to rushing around always busy with something constructive, mechanical or working in the garden - feeling under par is not something he can adjust to.  I think we were both naive and unprepared for the fact that he would not bounce back fully invigorated straight after surgery; it looks like recovery will be a bit slower than we'd hoped.  However, life goes on and he'll just have to read the books he's been waiting to read and maybe watch a bit of TV!!

The blip is of some old huts at Stoke Mandeville hospital - they were used as sports halls at one time but are now looking a bit sorry for themselves and likely awaiting demolition. Strangely attractive though.
