A World without Glaciers

.... seems to be where we are heading, I can see the changes from our window. The glaciers at the end of our valley are sadly grey with debris by this time of the year and the Rhone river flows swiftly carrying tons of silt from glacier melt. Change a photo into black and white and the contrast is more evident. The greyer the glacier is, the more heat it absorbs, and the faster it melts. Many of the old classic routes in the Alps can no longer be climbed as they don't exist any more. It is so sad for future generations of would be climbers.

Thanks for all the swallowtail appreciation yesterday, he seems to have flown onto the first popular page.
