Great Banded Grayling

A rather tattered specimen that has clearly been around the block this summer. This one was pretending to be part of an old tree. Apparently they scatter their eggs into vegetation during flight rather than laying them carefully on stems. They are as big as Swallowtails and quite common in our area.

Had a panic today, Preston, the giant kitten (see yesterday’s extra) fell from the roof that he had jumped onto from the carport roof. He landed the right way up on the ground, was frightened and then dazed, otherwise he seems OK tonight. I was as shocked as he was, I just happened to be there!
