Sunset at end of the ride, Reculver

Cycled the Viking Way, our favourite route along the North Kent Coast from Reculver, near Herne Bay via Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate before turning inland at Cliff End through Minster, Monkton and St Nicholas at Wade and back onto the coast for the final few miles to Reculver for a well earned pint at the King Elthelbert pub.

Stopped at our regular watering holes at West Bay for “Elevenses” and Broadstairs for Fish and Chips. In a departure from our usual stops we called in at a very old friend’s in Ramsgate for a cup of tea, which turned out to also include a glass of wine and a plate of cakes. I’ve know Adrian for 60 years, his mum and my mum we’re friends as children in the 1930s so we go back a long time, even though it is only in the last 5 years we’ve reestablished contact and we’ve not seen each over for at least two years.

The weather was sunny, cool in the breeze, good cycling weather. We didn’t really feel any ill effects of the 33 miles and felt elated and buzzing at the end. That’s the oldest we’ve ever been on this route!
