Kayaking among the American lotus beds

Friday
We went kayaking up at Cowan Lake this afternoon among the American lotus beds. We rented a double kayak for 2 hours, as it said on the board, but the lady behind the desk said it was actually 3 hours. We figured 2 hours would probably be enough for us, since it’s very different kayaking on a lake, rather than a river, where you are following the current!  We crossed the lake to the inlet we have been to before, but as we were paddling slowly, taking photographs, we got talking to a lady in another kayak - or I should say she got talking to us - she obviously loved to talk! However, she was interesting to talk with, as she obviously knows the lake very well - she was telling us she lives within 30 minutes of the lake, and had bought her own kayak back in June, and has been going 3 or 4 times a week since! So she described a couple of areas to go - including down the far end of the lake,so we decided to go explore. The lake isn’t huge, but it’s a long way to paddle. However, it was a beautiful afternoon - lower temperatures and humidity, so we made the most of it, and in the end we were out for almost three hours, though a lot of that of course, was just meandering gently amidst the beautiful blooms! When we got back, we enjoyed  the picnic lunch we had taken with us, and sat in our chairs reading for a while, before driving home. In the evening, we were out at the Reds game - the Reds playing the Chicago Cubs, and the Reds won 5-2. Being a Friday, the game was followed by fireworks! A great day!
