A moment ...

When the people living and working in Bexleyheath, Kent, would have been in fear of their lives as a bomb dropped. This was probably dropped by a German bomber returning home from a raid on Woolwich Arsenal. This area of Greater London and Kent was subject to many such events as the returning bombers dropped their excess load. This particular bomb was possibly dropped in raid on 15th October 1940 but failed to explode, and was only discovered in 1992.

As a result of the bombings, Mum was evacuated to live with family in Oswestry. She was lucky, one story tells of a bomb which dropped on a train in Bexley near her home killing other young evacuees - a sobering thought.
